UP Themed Wedding in Somis, CA
I photographed this wedding in Ventura County solo, no idea what to expect I pulled up to a beautiful plantation style home situated high upon a hill with a spectacular view. Just amazing. The house itself fit the bill exactly to what I picture some historic home in the south looking like and I imagine the owner just scooped it up out of a field somewhere and airdropped it on this mountain. I’d actually never even heard of Somis until Sanda got in touch with me and asked me if I’d shoot a wedding there. Realizing with was within driving distance I happily signed myself up for the adventure… cause “adventure is out there!” [dorky “Up” reference that will make sense in a bit]
I arrived to find giggling girls getting ready in a backroom. Sanda was adorably nervous until the first round of shots kicked in, then it was comfy smiles from there on out. After a picture perfect, quick, heartfelt and hilarious ceremony [delivered by a friend on an iPad] we got the party started. Sanda and Chris, you two gave me one of my favorite “we just got married!” shots as you were coming down the aisle exiting the ceremony. Thats how you do it!
The day was filled with lots of laughs and tears, awesome dance moves and some great words from loving people. Joke of the night goes to one of Chris’ brothers… who said something along the lines of “Chris did good by finding Sanda, being an archaeologist, its pretty much guaranteed that the older Chris gets, the more she will be diggin him.” A jab in good taste, it stuck with me and I laughed pretty hard ;) Sanda and Chris had cool tie ins of the movie UP. They had their own “Adventure book”, colorful balloons strung up here and there, a fabulous UP cake topper, AND in place of the sign in book they had a friend do a hand sketch of the old mans house in UP, each of the guests finger prints were a balloon. A seriously cool and thoughtful way to make personalized art to hang in their home. Love it. As you will see Sanda also has a thing for butterflies. The gift table, her necklace among other things had that touch. I totally dig the bridesmaids dresses. Non traditional. The food was great, they had some great brew on tap, fine wine, great friends with an amazing view and I left this evening feeling totally refreshed in the company of good people celebrating a great love.
Thank you Sanda and Chris for inviting me out to share in your celebration as your wedding photographer. You are wonderfully beautiful people and I hope you fill that adventure book with many amazing days you two will share in your life together.
